About Wash-Sale Guardian
Wash-Sale Guardian is a small, independent team of multi-account retail traders. We built this tool after a cross-account wash sale bit us personally: a loss harvested at one broker, quietly washed by a re-buy at another, discovered months later at tax time — when nothing could be done about it. Neither broker warned us, because neither broker could see the other. That's not a bug in the brokers; it's the structure of the system. So we built the missing piece.
What we believe
- Your trade history shouldn't be the price of admission. The tool runs entirely in your browser. There is no server that receives your trades, no account to create, and no brokerage login to hand over. We can't see your data because there is nothing for it to travel to.
- A tax tool must never guess. When your uploaded history doesn't reconcile, the engine refuses to give a verdict rather than risk a wrong "you're safe." Every detection rule is documented on our methodology page, including what we don't handle.
- Primary sources or it didn't happen. Our articles cite IRS Publication 550, IRC §1091, and Rev. Rul. 2008-5 directly. We are traders, not CPAs, and we say so — nothing here is tax advice.
Corrections
If you find an error — in an article or in the tool's output — email us at hello@washsaleguardian.com. Substantive corrections are fixed promptly and noted on the page with an updated date.
